From Chisholm’s Trail to Harris’s Run: The Evolution of Black Women in U.S. Presidential Politics | October 28th, 7:30 PM

On October 28th, Dr. Fraser will join Dr. Jelani Cobb and Dr. Keisha Blain for a panel discussion at the Museum of the City of New York about the ways Chisholm’s run set the stage for Harris and the role of black women in shaping our democracy. The discussion will be hosted by ABC’s Sandra Bookman.

Election Day Educator Event: Shirley Chisholm and Civics: From NYC to the Nation’s Capital | November 5th, 12:30 PM

On Election Day, Dr. Fraser will provide the keynote address for the MCNY’s “Shirley Chisholm and Civics” event. This will be a day long of professional learning exploring civic connections for your students through the life of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first woman to run for president on a major party ticket. This interdisciplinary day includes workshops for K-12 educators.

Shirley Chisholm in Her Own Words: A Book Talk with Dr. Zinga Fraser and Dr. Farah Jasmine Griffin | November 13th, 6:30 PM

Shirley Chisholm in Her Own Words: Speeches and Writings is edited with an introduction by Dr. Fraser and published by the University of California Press.

Drawing from the insights of the first ever collection of the writings of Shirley Chisholm, author Zinga Fraser will be in conversation with Dr. Farah Jasmine Griffin to discuss how Chisholm’s trailblazing legacy and intellectualism continues to influence movements for racial and gender justice today.

Co-presented by The Shirley Chisholm Project and Columbia University’s African American and African Diaspora Studies DepartmentInstitute for Research in African American Studies, and Institute for Social and Economic Research & Policy.

Shirley Chisholm Day 2024 at Brooklyn College | November 14th, 11 AM

On November 14th, the Shirley Chisholm Project will continue our tradition of celebrating Shirley Chisholm Day. To mark the centennial of Shirley Chisholm’s birth, we will hold our very first Shirley Chisholm Project Awards. The event will be held at Woody Tanger Auditorium at Brooklyn College from 11 AM to 12:15 PM.
