Brooklyn College celebrates Shirley Chisholm Day, November 27, 2012, on the 40th anniversary of Chisholm's historic presidential run.

This year we honor Shirley Chisholm's commitment to women's reproductive rights, health and justice.  Loretta J. Ross joins the Chisholm Project from SisterSong: Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective, a network of 80 women of color and allied organizations. She worked with Shirley Chisholm in the 1980's on black women's' health issues.

Also speaking on Chisholm Day is Dr. Iris Lopez, a sociology professor at City College and Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program at City College of New York. In her most recent book Matters of Choice, Lopez makes a stirring case for a model of reproductive freedom, taking readers beyond victim/agent debates to consider a broader definition of reproductive rights within a feminist anthropological context. She is also the coauthor of Telling to Live: Latina Feminist Testimonios.
