The Chisholm Project would like to officially announce our schedule of events for Chisholm Day 2018: The 50th Anniversary Celebration of Chisholm’s Election to Congress!

To celebrate this momentous year, we will host a day-long symposium. The first of our events will engage how Chisholm’s lifelong fight for social justice informs the movements that define the political landscape in our time:

THE STATE OF BLACK WOMEN’S POLITICS: A ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION

OUR ESTEEMED PANELISTS: Dr. Niambi Carter of Howard University; Dr. Christina Greer of Fordham University; Dr. Nadia Brown of Purdue University; Ms. Monica Dennis, Co-Founder of Move to End Violence and Coordinator of Black Lives Matter NYC

Our Director, Dr. Zinga A. Fraser will be moderating the discussion.

The second of our events will be:

A CONVERSATION WITH DR. SONIA SANCHEZ on Chisholm’s Legacy, Life and Freedom

This conversation between legendary poet, scholar and activist Dr. Sonia Sanchez and our Director, Dr. Zinga Fraser will involve reflecting on Chisholm’s legacy, the Black freedom movement. They will also discuss Dr. Sanchez’s  activism and art during oppressive political times.
