The Chisholm Project proudly congratulates our director Dr. Zinga Fraser for the citation she recently received from the New York State Assembly.

The Assembly paid tribute to Dr. Fraser for her, “extensive work in education for the African American community worthy of celebration.”

The award cited Dr. Fraser’s many academic distinctions, her work on Capitol Hill with the late Congressman Major Owens and her work “educating, mobilizing and engaging black communities,” as the U.S. Policy Director for the Women’s Development Organization. In addition, the Assembly acknowledged her work as the Director of the Shirley Chisholm Project and as “one of the nation’s foremost experts on former Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, African American Congressional Women, and African American Politics.”

Signed by Assemblymember Walter T. Mosely, the citation summed up Dr. Fraser’s impact in this way:

Dr. Fraser’s professional and philanthropic activities are an exemplary solution to the challenges facing the 21st century. Through [her] unwavering spirit of love for the African American community, Dr. Fraser has been and continues to be the voice of many, and the model of excellence…

The award was given to Dr. Fraser on March 30th, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Crown Heights, where she served as the guest speaker during their annual Student Recognition Luncheon.
