Tomorrow at 5pm, the Shirley Chisholm Project will continue the tradition of Shirley Chisholm in engaging with a new generation of women in public service. We are proud to be co-sponsoring the Women of CUNY’s Candidate Forum. The conversation will include the candidates’ platforms, their experiences as women and politics, and formative influences that shaped their pursuit of public service. The candidates participating in the forum will be as follows:

 

Althea Stevens–Candidate for Bronx City Council (District 16) and alum of Hunter College

 

 

 

 

 

 

Amoy K. Barnes–Candidate for City Council (District 42) and alum of Baruch College

 

 

 

 

Shahana Hanif–Candidate for Brooklyn (District 39) and alum of Brooklyn College

 

 

 

 

 

Elisa Crespo– Candidate for Bronx (District 19) and alum of John Jay College.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tahanie Aboushie– Candidate for District Attorney of Manhattan and alum of York College.

 

 

 

 

 

The Director of the Chisholm Project, Professor Zinga Fraser, will be moderating the discussion. In addition to leading the Chisholm Project, Dr. Fraser is an Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and Women & Gender Studies at Brooklyn College.

 

 

Before becoming a professor, Dr. Fraser served as a congressional Aide to Representative Major Owens.

 

 

 

 

 

Rep. Owens succeeded the Honorable Shirley Chisholm in representing New York’s 12th Congressional District.
